| How did you get started in yoga?
I started practicing yoga for the physical benefits. Yet almost
instantly, I was drawn in by the mental, emotional and spiritual
discoveries I was finding during my practice. My first class was
at a women's gym in NYC with approximately 60 other women. The walls
were yellow, teal and mirrored and the floor was hot pink (very
80s!). Yoga brought tranquility there - I was hooked.
What has it meant to you?
Nothing else has brought me greater sense of wholeness than yoga
has. It has taught me about my own power as well as surrender and
humility.
Who are your teachers, inspirations?
My primary teachers are my students. I learn the most from them.
And of course my teachers are my teachers! Each has shared a gift.
I am also getting better at listening to my own "inner teacher,"
though it still takes work! I am most inspired by personal stories
of survival, generosity, gratitude and perseverance, as well as
everyday victories.
Styles that influence you?
Iyengar, Anusara, Ashtanga and Viniyoga
What do you hope to share with your students?
I hope to share with my students a way towards greater acceptance
of who and what they are, better listening to their bodies thoughts
and feelings without judgement. I hope to encourage finding joy,
peace and the occasional bit of humor in their practice.
What's your favorite asana? Least favorite?
Fave: Virabhadrasana II - It is the "I can handle anything
that comes my way" pose!
Least Fave: Ardha Chandrasana: Balance is always a challenge.
